How to get an American iphone working in Australia on Telstra prepaid sim?

I'm going over to america for a holiday and im looking at buying an iphone. I'm already with Telstra prepaid and don't want to change. What would i have to do to get it working over here? Will i still be able to update my iphone? Do i need to get it unlocked and where can i get this done? Can i use the wifi? I've searched the internet for ages but everyone says different things. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.|||Well to get the iPhone working on Telstra you need to unlock it...

It's easy to unlock just use redsn0w and ultrasn0w

If you need help contact me

justinxtreme@yahoo.com

But you will have to change services to AT%26amp;T to get the iPhone 3GS for the $199 with contract price or else you will have to pay $700 for one without contract

iPhone 3G cost $99 with contract....

I'd go with the 3G S...

Also you have to pay the activation fee ($50)

Then in a few days (14 days I think)

You can cancel your AT%26amp;T Service and keep your iPhone but you will have to pay a termination fee (Around $200).... It also lowers your credit score by a little

But you have to pay the monthly fee though before you terminate

It adds up to paying only around $500 compared to the $700 MSRP Price without contract but you have to lower your credit score by a bit

Contact me for more info|||it needs to be unlocked and jailbroken

which can be done by downloading software

but this can also stuff up the iphone if new updates come out

if your not going to worry about updating the software you should be fine

but if it breaks or has any problems apple wont replace it unless you pay for it if its been unlocked and it voids the warranty|||look for my unlock guide.
